There are many fortresses in Malta, but Fort Rinella, guarding the capital Valletta, is special. Its main attraction is the largest working cannon in the world.

The Armstrong cannon weighs over 100 tonnes and with a calibre of 450mm can fire up to 13km. It was brought here by the British in 1882 to protect their sea lanes from the Italians.

It is open only on Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:30.

How to get there
You can park for free on the side of the road that runs past the entrance. Since Fort Rinella is located outside of town, parking is not a problem.
In front of the entrance you will also find the bus stop "Ir-Rinella Fortizza", where bus lines number 3 (towards Valletta and the Three Cities) and 213 (towards the Three Cities and Mater Dei) stop.
